Independent Programme
If you have decided to do an independent TCT programme, here are the steps to follow:
1. Read through the Practitioner’s Guide and Programme Director’s Guide for more information about how the programme works.
2. Download the Module 1 materials
If you will be teaching in a language other than English, check to see if a translation already exists for your language
Download Module 1See available translations
3. Read through the materials and watch the ‘How to Teach Module 1’ video
It will help you to understand the main ideas that you should emphasise while teaching Module 1.
4. Teach Module 1
Teach Module 1 to a small group (or even your family) to familiarize yourself with the materials. Module 1 consists of 9 lessons, which can be taught over a weekend, two hours a day for nine days, or even one lesson a week for nine weeks—whatever suits your context best. If you aren’t comfortable teaching then please contact us to see if we have a trainer in your area that could help.
5. Do an Act of Love.
These are simple activities to show love to your community or someone in your community. It should be something you pray through, that involves as many people as possible, that takes less than a day, and that uses resources that are easily available. These are explained in detail in Module 1.
6. If you want to expand to a number of churches, then we recommend:
-
-
- Bring together a group of pastors and teach Module 1 as a two-day seminar. Those with looser relationships (no denominational authority) often find it helpful to do a vision casting using a few of the Orientation videos to get pastors excited about attending.
- Wait three months and see what fruit there is. While you are waiting, be sure to pray for the churches and pastors, that God would show them what He would have them do in their communities. After three months, look for those churches who have done something—either taught some of the ideas in the church or done an Act of Love. We recommend starting out teaching these churches. They will become great role models to others and, as other church leaders start to see the fruit in the first churches, they will then be more ready to get started. Ask the churches you’ll be working with to select someone who can teach these ideas to the congregation. They may choose the pastor or the leader of the women’s or youth group (for example). The people they choose will become their Local Facilitators.
- Work though Module 1 with the Local Facilitators, helping them to learn to teach it well. Make sure everything is clear and that they can use the Teacher’s Guides.
- After about three months, meet again with the Local Facilitators and have them share stories of how things are going. Have they started to teach? What were the results? Did they face any problems? Take time to pray for each other.
- Six months after step c, meet again and teach Module 2.
- You should continue to meet every three months. Teach a new module once every six months, and meet together one other time to share stories, encourage one another, and pray.
-
7. Get in touch with us (optional).
- As an independent, you don’t have to stay in contact with us. However, we believe it’s a good way for you to know what’s happening with other TCT partners, access new resources as they are developed, and allow us to be praying for you. Here are a few ways to connect:
- Sign up to receive the newsletter – We send a quarterly email to share what new resources we’ve produced.
- Subscribe to TCT Magazine – The semi-annual magazine is designed for rural churches. It has stories of what other churches are doing to give them inspiration and articles that reinforce key teaching. We encourage you to download the magazine and share it amongst your Facilitators and pastors. If you are working with a language group that we are currently translating materials into, please let us know. We may have a translation of the magazine.
- Become a member – This will give you access to all of the modules. When you fill in that form we will also link you with the Regional Coordinator (RC) for your area. They can add you to their regional WhatsApp group. It’s a great way for those implementing TCT to learn from, encourage, and pray for each other. The RCs are also more than happy to talk with you if you have any questions.
8. Keep going through the rest of the modules.
Make sure that you wait at least six months between modules. That is, if you start teaching the first module in January then you should start teaching the second module in July or August. We have found a significant decrease in the impact when this timeline is sped up. You can find Modules 1-5 under the materials section (the rest are available under “Members”). Modules 1-3, Salt & Light, and Living as God Intended should be taught in the order shown in the overview. The skills modules—Health, Marriage & Family, Money Matters, Agriculture, and Evangelism—can be done in any order depending on the needs in your area.
