In one Buddhist village, there is a small church of 13 families that was planted by missionaries in 1993. The community was suspicious of the Christian church, and for more than twenty years had refused to allow the church to build a house for a pastor to live in. So the pastor had to travel from another village to lead the church. Many times, the church had asked permission to build a house for the pastor, but the community leaders refused. The church began studying the TCT program, and learned about loving their neighbors and helping the vulnerable, like widows and sick people. Over the years, the Christians did many Acts of Love. In one instance, the fence around a pond was broken. Pigs, cows, and goats could go in and out of the pond freely, and plastic and garbage was polluting the pond as well. The Christians repaired the fence and cleaned the pond so that their community could again use it safely. The non-Christians saw the benefit of this, so they began to value the church, recognizing that Christians care for people. After this Act of Love, the community leaders finally allowed believers to build a pastor’s house and settle the pastor’s family in their village.
